KYOUKA: Frames of Reference by Ryo Yamashita Ryo Yamashita established his atelier in 1998. He is an artist with a rare medium-frames for eye-glasses. With the industrialisation of glasses, he believes the intrinsic relationship between the maker and the wearer has disappeared. His inspiration is derived from the word “Kyouka” which means, “glass that reflects “the beauty of a flower”. Yamashita works with bamboo and iron, taking three to four months to design and execute one frame. His 2007 exhibition in Italy was critically acclaimed as a path-breaking endeavour. |
