Aung Aung Taik

in dialogue with Bina Sarkar Ellias

Aung Aung Taik is one of the pioneers of modern art in Burma. He attended the State Academy of Art in Rangoon while taking private lessons from two of Burma’s leading artists, U Ba Kyi and U Ngwe Gaing. Successful exhibitions of his work in Burma and Japan followed, yet, frustrated with censorship and stagnation in the fine arts, he sought greater artistic autonomy in the United States. There, he continued his studies at the San Francisco Art Institute
