By Durga Baral
Durga [Batsyayana] Baral, Nepal’s most renowned and respected artist and cartoonist, has documented his country’s conflict years[1996-2006] and the current situation through an equal measure of pain and scathing humour. One of his inspirations has been the legendary Indian cartoonist R.K. Laxman, best known for his pertinent observations through the ubiquitous “Common Man”. Voices of resistance being crucial to any society, Baral’s is clearly a critical one in engaging with the most vibrant civil discourse in Nepal’s beleaguered history.
